Well, I've had this idea for getting folks together to pool info about the candidates and propositions before election day. This next election, in November, in San Francisco, will have 2 local offices with 7 candidates running (the 3rd office is running unopposed), 9 local propositions, and 8 state propositions. O joy. And this in an off-year election. So, I'm looking for people who want to do this with me. With 34 possible proposition votes and 7 possible candidates, obviously folks will be researching more than one thing -- but since there's so much to cover, the report will necessarily be short. But I'm thinking that it'd take at least a dozen to twenty people to do this. And my vague thought is to take over a cafe for an hour or two on the Sunday before election day. Anybody want in?
Edit: Or, maybe, this meeting should be kept virtual. I was doing the math on my bus ride home, and 3 minutes per presentation might give short shrift -- and yet 3 minutes apiece would be two full hours. Yikes. Not good.
(I suppose it's early days to worry 'bout it, anyway, with 8 more weeks until the election. But I just know how fast that'll pass, and I hate it, sitting there on Monday night, with a huge pile of links, trying to figure out how the hell I'm going to vote...)

(Damn, I guess I really do live in San Francisco now. In the 13 years I was in NY, I don't think I knew more than one person who would've wanted to do something like this on local politics.)

reminder...
It's just about mid-October. Thoughts:1. If you're gonna use the votingclub community, I suggest that you start a separate post for each proposition and each office, so people can carry on separate discussions on those; then maybe have one general-purpose post where people can start threads like "I don't care about anything else but PLEASE VOTE NO ON PROP. ____!"
2. The Guardian endorsements are out now. Some of them give lots of useful background, some don't, but it'd be good to mention them.
3. "Are these people on crack?" No, Arnold just figures that his little Republican army has a better chance of prevailing in a low-turnout election.
